Kawaii Pins!

OMG, who else loves pin badges?!
And more so that now kawaii artists are now putting their art on to pins! I am in heaven. I mind when I was a kid and my 1st pin was a CATS Musical pin. I still have it . I wanted more but my folks would be like they are pins , they are sharp so no. Gutted. I kinda forgot about pins as an accessories until of late and love that they are cute quirky and super kawaii .  I also noted that Button badges are coming back in again! ( Who else used to fill up the school tie with buttons being all edgy !LOL! Do kids still do that?!)

A catch up and Insomnia Scotland

Ahhh. I forgot to post about one of my most exciting event this year! -My bad.

Any way back in April, I went to the 1st Insomnia Gaming festival in Scotland. Which was rather exciting. I never done a Gaming festival before and I had been invited by the cosplay team as a Judge for the cosplay masquerade and community guest.  It was such a huge event and took up all the space at the events place at EICC in Edinburgh.
I was in cosplay, There was a fair few others in cosplay also. I was both Sailor Moon and Asuna from Sword Art Online. I also had a personal photographer with me the full weekend and did lots of photo shoots. As well I was playing , trying ans testing out lots of games. I also was on stage with the rest of the cosplay crew and we did a panel on Cosplay . And  I also met some new folks and hung out with fellow cosplayers. I really enjoyed my time at the event and I have a vlog and video on my you tube for you all to check out. As I kinda forgot of all the stuff that went on you can check it out on those!

As well I have been busy with a few other things, Such as modelling wigs from the amazing UK kawaii fashion store Cutesty Kink!   And am still working my way through the shoots and images of such cute and harajuku style like wigs. Which as so worth checking out. Also I have been working on some clothing model work with Cutesy Kink as well. Something I have not done before- As I only did wigs in the past! So it was a learning curve for me.
So I had fun with cute tops and jumpers that look like they have come right off the streets of Harajuku and the other stuff is the Pusheen range of cute and adorable tops! Which every thing is so cute and super soft when worn.

What else is new with me? Well not very much apart form modelling and indulging in Kawaii fashions and make up. School has been pretty demanding and with meetings and appointments so I really not had much time to get anything else sorted. However am in hope to get some more blog posts up for you all really soon and share kawaii stuff with you all . So this is a pretty short and sweet post!

So am gona catch you guys later!

What is your Kawaii fashion identity .

Fashion. Its a vast world out there full of fashion, main stream to sub fashion. To High street trends to the trends in High-school and Collage. Finding your own fashion and style is very interesting path. Over the years I have tried many styles , some suited me and many didn't. Eventually we find our place in fashion and learn what we like and dislike. I have not done a personal post in ages so I finally got round to my thoughts on my fashion Identity and how is changed over the past 4 years.

A few years back I ventured into Lolita it didn't last very long for me, I understood the guidelines and the rules of dressing in such a fashion but I found it didn't fit my personality or my lifestyle. To this day I still love it ,I admire it on others and adore it, But not on me. I love those who wear it and when I see groups of those pretty frilly enchanting creatures, when they are on a meet up. My heart fills up just admiring them all.

However when I looked to other fashions. I found them not quite to fit me being  a bit dull and not so kawaii from the UK high street trends. I turned to J-Fashion and the sub styles even then, I knew what I liked but never quite found what style I fitted into so I guess I just call it Harajuku inspired and Kawaii fashion.  I found Decora and fairy kei to young for me , I found Gal styles a bit over the top - I really could not place the name for the style, I wanted to embrace with myself with .

It was about 3-4  years ago I started to find more quirky looking clothing online and mixed it with my own tastes to slowly build up a collection of my style, it is still being worked on as I write this, as am far from finished.  I call it Kawaii Fashion ...well its under that umbrella.
What I can say is I have really moved away from wearing greys and blacks , now am 90% colour- yay! I used to be into Scene and Goth in the past - I do also like those styles but favour more Japanese street style to those, mind you I think every one dips a toe in those styles down the fashion discovery path. However the inner rock chic in me sometimes surfaces every now and again with a hint of gothic.Old habits I guess.

I am on the forever hunt for a style that screams Kawaii that can be both toned down and up! I look for happy colours and lots of pink. I am in love with pastels ,something I would never wear in the past. I also have learnt to tone down my looks and outfits when I need to and when I need to let a kawaii explosion happen on a simple outfit. I much favour comfort and causal when it comes to items I pick and choose from. I even love to play about with makeup and go a bit crazy with it.
Sometimes and lets be real about this , here in the UK you don't always get to wear what you want ,all the time. So many pass judgement or it just not seen as appropriate.  I tone down to fit in with situation and tone up when it comes to meet ups, seeing friends and events or if its on Tartan Kawaii business. Its a useful skill to have.
I count myself lucky cause,I am comfortable in whatever I wear and if I get looks form others - well, I get looks am happy being in the styles I like toned up or down. So I do not worry about what others think. Yup I will find a way to sneak in some Kawaii or style if needed I will bend rules if the situation comes about mind you I do have become known now , at the school run for bright high top trainers to  those rock chic leather jackets.

Accessories ,I love the use of accessories and think those can be your best friend if you are wearing something simple . I firmly believe they have the power to complement and bring Kawaii to an outfit. Mind you I do struggle to find more mature looking Kawaii items and ranges. This goes to outfits and fashions as well. It's like once you hit your early 20's to mid 20's your not seen as Kawaii anymore or its not a market for companies to take an interest in. Just a head up- we all get old! And I, for one am staying Kawaii even when am a old wife, btw with my leathers and blue rise hair its a style I will rock well! So even though I have had to hunt high and low to find the right sorta style and accessories its not stopped me being Kawaii no matter what my age. I also stopped trying to look baby looking or aiming to look younger than what I really am. Hey, I thought at the time it was a good idea of eternal youth but since then I got back on my own game and stopped looking as young as possible and embraced my new mature Kawaii self. The answers to the game guess Tartan's age are all off and no one can guess my real age , such a mystery lol! I have fallen in love with some cool kawaii accessories over the years and like your indie style brands I have a big love for Tarina Tarantino, Loungefly x Hello Kitty, Japan. L.A and  The Rougue+The Wolf.

It is funny with all this hunting you come across many companies and retailers on those paths and then with outfits . You find out how to change your style of make up to match in with it. For a long time I was natural shades and a ton of eye liner and a full face of make up every day. Now every day its a BB cream, brows done and blusher and my fave lippy in a shade of pink. ( I am loving JSC and Splash LA pinks.) This is for the every day casual look I aim for when am in the Kawaii Mumma mode. But I will put on a full face when it comes to events, and such. I want it to last all day, yuno.
I am enjoying so many make up brands just know, such as Lunastick Comestics Labs, Jeffree Star Cosmetics. Make up Monsters , Sugar pill and Concrete Minerals. Mainly animal testing free products and some are vegan too. I also adore my Korean and Japanese Products too but then I maybe a bit of a sucker for Kawaii packaging - lol.

So this is my Kawaii Fashion Identity. I like to dress up Kawaii and am happy. And to me that is all that matters. If you like to dress up in a style and fashion and it makes you happy. Then be yourself and do it. I see my kawaii fashion like my armour. It helps me take on the day. Even if its a lazy day with bed head hair and I throw on my Hello Kitty oneise and a full face of make up answering the door to the postman who has brought me something new and cute in the post. No cares there lol.

Dark Kawaii - Gothic Review

Hey guys so this is a wee write up / review on a few items I have purchased of late. For a change these are more dark/ gothic / alternative items that I got that maybe some of you might like to check out and get kawaii creative with these sort of items as anything can have a touch of kawaii !
The following items are from Little Booteek which is a online gothic and alternative store.

I picked the following items which included Fake eyelashes , one pair has studs on them and the other is a set of butterfly wings. There were about £5 each. The Butterfly ones are a set I have used and Ionely played about with them with a fairy like look. The wings are adorable and make the look very enchanting! I also used my Cutesy Kink Wig that fitted in really well with the make up.
If you want to see who I made the look my video on youtube is here.

The other items I purchased were headdress like items, Am loving playing with hair accessories with my wigs , I have been spending a fair amount on them but the ones I got were headbands form the store made by a company called restyle.

One is the Antlers which came with both with and with out black flowers , I picked the ones with out as I wanted to have the option of other coloured flowers. That way I can chop and change it with different looks. The other ones are the horn type , again they come with and with out the black flowers.  The headbands are both pretty sturdy. Even thought they are black they still have a fair amount of detail on them.

Applying these accessories can change a Kawaii look to a gothic or a Kawaii dark style like creepy cute really rapidly and it can be considered as a mix it up fashion too. I think I will keep these more for enchanting like looks or with messing with make ups rather that adopting a new style. Maybe something to use for fun or at Halloween later on in the year.
Here is a few examples of Dark but Kawaii fashions

What do you think of Kawaii fashion that is a little bit darker?

Kawaii is not just one type of Fashion or Colour Pallet

Hey every cutie, am sure that all of you know that ,Kawaii is used in many kinds of fashions.

source Google
But have you noticed it gets more of an association on more fashions than others, Lets focus on J-Fashions, There is so many kinds and many sub fashions. But have you noticed once  these reach out of Japan and slowly make their way to the UK there is  are only a few main ones that stand out and some even stay in the UK. Some times Trends come this way but they don't last as long as they do every where else.

source Tumblr

Am gonna pick a few like of Sweet Lolita, Fairy Kei and say Hime Gyaru. Okay so I may or may not have picked  some fashions there because they are all often have the use of Pastel shades.
It did not take long for then Pastel shades to also become kawaii, I have no issue with that at all. These colours and styles seem to be a bit more accepted in the alternative fashions and in the UK, But what about all the other  brighter

Fashions. I wonder if  and why they are being left out?
With so many styles getting more attention that other ones ,you often find these  Lighter colours will come up on a Google search more often and tagged a lot more on tumblr, than the other colours, I guess I wanted to share that Kawaii is not just one Colour Pallet or shades, its every shade and Pallet. Its also can be in every fashion and style.

source HawaiiKawaii
I wanted to do a post on more colourful , brighter and more Creative styles of Kawaii. Personally I wonder why many do not wear these sort of fashions -

Is it because the UK in fashion and in the public eye, is not very brave to stand out and be Brighter. Is it because we are to wear dull colours to work/school and get so comfortable that we forget about a splash of colour? Or are we scared to stand out from the crowd and be different? Are we scared to look like we are clown's escaped from a circus? Can we wear Kawaii and Bright Colours together? Maybe we are to mature to wear something that might look childish to on lookers which is why Pastels are easier to wear and not stand out as much.

I know am very lucky to be able to wear what I want  more a less every day but even I find I end up wearing darker colours at times.
source Goggle

But because I have made a promise to be more colourful in outfits and more kawaii maybe my post here might inspire you. Its also very easy to do is well ! But let's get some inspiration form the streets of Japan where I think we can at least pick a few ideas and adapt them to our own styles.

I guess most inspiration comes from Harajuku Fashion trends, then adapts its way into other fashions. I can imagen that there is new and wonderful ideas coming from there all the time. I love seeing the styles that are colourful in primary shades of colour (Red Blue and Yellow btw.)

There is lots of over the top and layering in some Kawaii fashions but you don't have to do this you can make your outfits kawaii in a simple way and can you can bring in brighter colours with this too.

candykisa.tumblr.com
Mixing styles together is so much fun too. What about Pastel shades with Street styles or Adding brighter tones to your normal Lolita wardrobe? Do you have any crazy accessories or items that you could easily use or even re-vamp to use. DIY Kawaii and hand made are a huge thing over in Japan fashions too.

What do you think? Do you think Bold colours will make a come back. Do you think Bright colours are Kawaii or not? What are your thoughts is Kawaii limited to only girly pastel shades or your imagination is the limit .

But remember , Wear what you enjoy wearing.

Kawaii Interview time with Raine

Hello every cutie! Hope you are all well! Today I have a Kawaii interview with the lovely Raine!

I do apologise my blog has been rather silent due to not being able to upload much , as my laptop is away for repairs!
Am also struggling to see and use this machine and I am left here hoping that my lap top will be ready sometime next week *sobs* I really miss it! So until I will try and get as many as my back logged post up. Now let's get on  with the interview!
Today we are interviewing Raine, who likes Manba Japanese styles. Lets get on with the interview!

So Raine ,First off when and how did you get into Kawaii culture?

It was when I moved to America when I was younger. That was when I discovered anime/manga. The first friend I made through my parents was into the Japanese culture. She introduced me to kawaii anime/manga. I was introduced to cute characters as well as cute fashions. From there I looked at magazines, discovered more styles. It wasn't until I moved back to London that I learnt about other subcategories of kawaii style. I investigated and tried out various styles until I found out where I stood.

What did you find are the things that appealed to you in Kawaii Culture?
The fun colours, the various fun styles. You could combine so many accessories and different clothing styles. With the Kawaii Culture you're unlimited to what you want to do. There really isn't so much of a what you can/can't do which is great. To be a part of the kawaii culture is such an enjoyment unlike being part of a different style culture.

Ah I see!, So what does Kawaii mean to you?
Being Kawaii to me means enjoying the cute side of life. It's bringing out your inner child, not being afraid of them. Life doesn't have to be black and white. It's about enjoying as you only have one life to live. Kawaii is something that everyone can do and experience. That's what Kawaii means to me.

Great! Do you have a fashion that you would say is Kawaii and can you tell us a bit more about it?
My fashion that I consider to be Kawaii is Manba. It's got the brightness and fun qualities of being a kawaii fan. The pastel colours that could belong with fairy kei along with bright neon colours. Two of my favourite types of colours. There is also the vibrant makeup that goes along with the style that helps you to stand out even more against the crowd. I think being Manba means that you have a lot more fun and greatly express your kawaii self.

WOW, ooh okay and What advise would you give readers to finding their styles?
Explore! Don't just find one style and stick to it, you've got to keep an open mind. If all of a sudden you find that the style you've been trying out isn't for you then don't give up. Move onto something else. Experiment as well. Take bits from one style and see if you can mix it up with the new style you're trying out.  I would also say don't go buying everything at once.
When you're trying to find your style, it doesn't mean you have to buy an excessive amount. It could be that the style you tried didn't work and then you've just spent lots of money on clothes you wouldn't wear again. Maybe about 5 clothes items would be a good start. A good amount to also mix and match to see what works for you.

Can you tell us where do you shop for your style and is it easy to find things?
For my style I usually go to thrift stores and see what I can find. With some of my old clothes, I sometimes alter them and create something new. Camden Town is one of my favourite places to look for clothes and accessories to add to my collection. I also buy my stuff from online such as ebay, etsy and storeenvy.

What brands of make up do you like?
I'm not a fan of super heavy foundations and such so I stick to light brands such as Natural from Boots and Bare Minerals. I don't like spending a ridiculous amount on cosmetics if I can help it so I usually go for store brands.

What styles would you say influence you?
Manba and Fairy Kei. I like to try to mix the two of them together when I can.

How do you feel when wearing your outfits or kawaii things?
Relaxed and happy. I feel so comfortable and myself. I don't have to worry about how others see me as I know how I feel when I have my outfit and kawaii items around and that's what's important to me.

Since being into Kawaii Culture would you say the way you do some things like your hair and make up, have they changed over time?
My makeup style has changed a lot but hair wise the only thing to change has been my hair colour. I have also gotten a preference to wearing wigs rather than dealing with my actual hair.

Heehee, What kind or anime or manga do you like and what would you recommend to some one?
I'm really open minded when it comes to anime/manga. I do however prefer ones with a bit of sci-fi, action/adventure in them. I usually always suggest Gundam Wing as a anime to watch for those who love sci-fi.

Do you like any Japanese Cute Music what do you listen too?
Don't listen to much cute music. If I do it's usually the openings or closing themes to animes. The only Cute Japanese artist I can say that I listen to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

The tought question here but who would you pick Sanrio or San X ?
San X. I've only really started to love the Sanrio characters. When I was first introduced to the Kawaii world my friend introduced me to San X first. I would buy everything with San X characters on it especially a lot of stationary for school.

And who would you say is your most loved Kawaii Character?
That's difficult to say because I don't have just one. I love Sanrio, San X and another of my favourites is Disney. I can't just have the one most loved as I love them all equally. If I had to choose one however...I would definitely go with Disney's Stitch.

Have you made or created your own Kawaii inspired stuff? (eg cosplay, outfit, deco-den ect ect .)
Nails and cute little figures made out of polymer clay. I stopped because I'm not a very D.I.Y person though I am getting into it a little more. I have plans to make my own cosplays and one day I would like to create my own outfit.

Awesome ,Where is your most fave place to shop for Kawaii ?
YesStyle.com That site has so many kawaii clothes and accessories that I wish I could have. From time to time I like to buy items from there. All of which I can incorporate to my style.

Do you have a Kawaii Idol or some one that inspires you?

I have several. For the fairy kei style I would say that Fetsu-Chan is my all time favourite person to look to for inspiration. She's so cute and her style is just too amazing to describe. I love the fact that she's so creative when it come to mix and match.

For the Manba style I look to the old group Angeleek. Each member of that group has their own interpretation of the style and it's great to see that even though they all share the same style the all somehow make it suitable for themselves in their own way.

And finally if I was a kawaii fairy and could grant you 3 wishes -What would you wish for ?

My 3 Kawaii wishes would be for me to be able to incorporate my kawaii style into everything that I do. That I would be able to be more Kawaii D.I.Y. and to make loads of Kawaii styled friends.

Hehe!

Thank you so much for your time and taking part in the interview Raine! It was great to know more about you and your own kawaii style!
